If you are just looking for shopping, casinos, wedding with Elvis, or go show stay in LV. But not only it is also surprisingly family-friendly city.

If you want the Miracle Mile/Rodeo Drive, stay in LA. In L.A. the weekends are a bit more fun anyway, whereas in Vegas it's always fun, but during the week it's not jam-packed.

People often ask about how they can get from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. This is a roundup of the ways you can do it. Prices are current as of August 2009.

Los Angeles Road Trip:

Distance to drive from lasvegas to losangeles is about 270 miles.If you don't want to fly then renting a car and driving is by far the best option. The total drive will be anywhere from 4 to 5 hours. Remember, Los Angeles traffic is bad between 3 PM and 7 PM, so avoid those hours. Also, there is nothing worth seeing, so just drive straight to Vegas from Los Angeles but if you like desert on road you will be passing thru the beautiful California high desert. So the drive is hot in August. Be sure to bring plenty of liquids with you. Fill up the gas tank in Vegas.

On the way from Las Vegas to Los Angeles there is worth a visit The Calico Ghost Town (about 140 miles from Vegas). An "Old West" silver mine that has been restroed by the Cal Parks And Recreation Dept. You have almost 50 miles of desert between Primm and Baker, pretty much without services. Then, 60 miles from Baker to Barstow, again without much by way of services. Baker has very expensive gas if you filled the tank in Vegas, no need for gas in Primm, it's only 90 miles. Baker has a reasonable number of fast food joints as well. In Barstow there is complete civilization with Super-Wal-Mart, full service grocery stores, another outlet mall, all the fast-food outlets., take the Lenwood exit for the best array of fast food places and sit down restaurants with everything most travelers need. Barstow is about 100 miles from L.A. Once you reach the 210, you will be in the Rancho Cucamonga area, and from then on, the drive is through gas stations and mini-marts at normal distances.

Bus From Los Angeles To Las Vegas:

Greyhound operates 14 daily buses between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It takes from 4h50min to 8h10min, costs $39 for an adult one way (web only fare).

GotoBus runs bus Los Angeles Las Vegas between cities, departing once a day in the morning from several area communities and many hotels. The costs from $25 one way and from $45 round trip.

Lux Bus is known as a "Vegas Flyer" which takes you non-stop and direct Los Angeles Las Vegas bus. It's higher priced as they offer light meals on board, nice reclining seats, bathroom, and movies. The costs to or from Las Vegas Los Angeles Area $88 one way and Las Vegas bus from Los Angeles $120 round trip.

Los Angeles Train:

Amtrak trains do not run between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Flights From Los Angeles To Las Vegas:

About 1 hour 10 minutes flight time, 3 hours total travel

Just be aware that it's about a five hour drive to LA from Vegas. You may find it's a better option to fly, it's only an hour each way. Air travel between cities isn't much more expensive than taking the bus and it's much faster.

Southwest have cheap prices (to Las Vegas for as low as $49 one-way) but its only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Saturdays. You might want to look at flying out of John Wayne Airport rather than Los Angeles Airport too, for a better price. John Wayne Airport is in Santa Ana-Orange County. Try to fly in at night. It’s a sight you will never forget.
